Russell Shorto is the director of the New Amsterdam Project at the New-York Historical Society, and the author of seven books, including the national bestseller The Island at the Center of the World. In 2009 he was awarded a Dutch knighthood for his work in advancing Dutch-American relations. In 2018 he was inducted into the New York State Writers Hall of Fame.
